Frequently Asked Questions
This page is a perpetual work in progress. Listed here are the questions I've been asked the most consistently to date. As new issues or questions arrise this FAQ will be updated. If you cannot find the answer to your question here, please contact Mekanikal Angel and your question(s) will be answered as soon as possible.
Aren't the falls and dreads too heavy to wear?
In a word, no. While all the falls and dreads you'll find at Mekanikal Angel are made from unusual materials, any standard size set of falls or dreads are very light weight. Yes, they're made from metal; but it's aluminum which is 1/3 the weight of steel. A normal size set of falls or dreads weighs no more than a standard size set of synthetic hair falls or synthetic dreads.
How do you put them in?
Exactly the same as regular hair falls and dread falls. Each set comes on lace; you simply bun or ponytail your hair, tie the lace around, add a few bobby pins and you're good to go. If you have long hair and choose to pony tail your hair as opposed to bunning it, it's suggested that you braid your hair into either one or several braids.
Won't they fall out? Aren't they too heavy to stay in?
No and no. As long as you tie them in properly and secure them with a few bobby pins, they aren't going anywhere. These just aren't heavy, period. They may look it, but they aren't. That's why in the descriptions they're listed as "deceptively light weight".
Can I dance with them in?
Heck yeah! You can jump on a pogo stick while hula hooping while wearing them, they just aren't going to fall out.
Can I get them with xyz added to them?
Yep, you can have a set with whatever you want added to them. Anything but adamantium or mithril, still haven't found a good supplier.
What does your limited lifetime guarantee cover exactly?
It covers any damage to your falls or dreads that may happen through normal use and wear. For instance, if you're out at a club dancing and random drunk person crashes into you, you fall, someone steps on your falls or dreads and pops some rings or crushes some scales, that's something that would be fixed for free. If say you leave them on the floor and your roommate runs over them with the vacuum, that is something that would not be covered under the guarentee.
Will they rust if I get them wet?
Uh, no. The only metal used to make Chain Fallz™ and Metal Dreadz™ is aluminum. Aluminum is a non-ferrous metal, which means it won't rust. Ever.
How do I clean them if they get dirty?
Chain Fallz™ and Dread Fallz™ are easy to clean. Warm soapy water and a mild liquid hand soap is all you need. If you are washing scales however you'll want to gently wipe them clean with a soft, lightly damp rag. Be careful not to rub the scales together when cleaning them with any pressure; because of the nature of anodized aluminum they can scratch and you'll be left with silvery streaks on some of your scales. You do have to exert a fair amount of pressure to do this as the scales are coated with a high quality sealant to "lock" the bright colors on, but you do need to be aware that it can happen.
You don't have a shopping cart, how do I order?
All orders are taken by e-mail or over the phone. There is no shopping cart because it would be almost impossible to do so and expect the customer to be happy with their finished product. Every piece is custom, even when ordering a duplicated piece; that requires communication and interaction with the customer to insure they recieve exactly what they want. Payment however is never taken over the phone or via e-mail; payment is only accepted via PayPal or money order.
Using PayPal helps keep overhead low, which keeps Mekanikal Angel from raising prices to compensate for credit card processing fees.
How soon do you ship after I send in my payment?
That depends. Large sets take longer, smaller sets take a shorter time. You'll be quoted a lead time before you make a payment and finish your order. Typically however lead times run between 4 - 8 weeks for a completed set. Lead times are based on several factors, such as the size of your order, any special materials, out of stock materials, and how many orders are ahead of yours. Again though don't worry, you'll be quoted an accurate lead time before you complete your order. If your piece or pieces are going to be 10 or 12 weeks out, that's the time you'll be quoted, you won't be told 4 weeks and then given excuse after excuse for the next 6 to 8 weeks.

If I wear them with my hair loose, won't my hair get tangled in the rings?
Nope, not at all. Mekanikal Angel only uses saw cut rings, which give a flush closure. The quality of the closures is so good in fact that you'll have a hard time even finding the ends of the rings. These are NEVER made with machine or pinch cut rings like you find on costume jewelry; that's why these are hand made from start to finish.
That said however, Scale Fallz™ most definately will get tangled up in loose hair simply because they are composed of dangly metal bits. It is strongly suggested that you bun or braid your hair before tieing anything with scales in.
I love these but don't want a full set, can I order just one or two Dreadz™ or chains?
Absolutely! You can order 1, 5, or 105 indivdual Dreadz™ or chains in any style Mekanikal Angel offers. Your individual pieces can be attached to lace, a nylon covered hair band, or just shipped loose for you to add to an existing hair piece.
